How to Make a Business Card QR Code

To make a business card QR code, choose a contact or vCard QR generator, enter your contact details, generate the code, and test it by saving the contact on another phone. Choose an option that embeds the details themselves if you want a contact code that can be read offline.

1. Choose a contact QR code

A QR business card generator can produce different kinds of results. A website QR code contains an address that opens a page; a contact QR code contains structured contact information, such as a vCard. For this task, choose Contact or vCard rather than Website or plain text. A reader must recognize the contact format to offer a useful saving action. A QR code that scans successfully but only displays a block of text has not yet completed the contact-saving task.

2. Keep the contact details focused

Start with your name, company, role, and the contact methods you want someone to use. Check phone numbers, including country codes, and proofread addresses before generating anything. Add a website or relevant profile only when it helps the recipient follow up. DENSO WAVE explains that encoding more data requires more QR squares, so a shorter contact record is a sensible starting point for a small printed card. Leave out private details you would not want someone to copy from a photograph of the code.

3. Generate the QR code in Business Card Tap

In Digital Business Card: NFC QR, labeled Business Card Tap inside the app, open My Card, enter or review your details, and tap Save. Open Share: the QR code is generated from the saved contact fields. Tap Big QR or the code itself to enlarge it. This output embeds a vCard 3.0 contact record directly; it does not send the scanner to a card website first. You do not need to configure NFC to use this route.

4. Test the saved contact, not just the scan

Display the code on one phone and scan it with another. On iPhone, Apple documents scanning through Camera or Code Scanner: frame the code and tap the detected result. The action offered for contact data depends on the reader, so follow the actual prompt rather than expecting a particular button. Complete the save, then open the resulting contact and check the name, company, number, email, and any website or profile fields you included. Pay attention to how the name is split into given and family names. If possible, repeat the test with both an Android phone and an iPhone before printing.

5. Fix a missing or unreadable code

If Business Card Tap reports too much text, shorten the record, especially long notes or addresses, save again, and reopen Share. If the code appears but the receiving camera struggles, use portrait orientation, reduce glare, hold the phones steady, and adjust the distance until the whole square is visible. The current Big QR layout can clip the code on short landscape screens because its size does not account for the available height. Rotate back to portrait if an edge is missing. If a reader recognizes the code but offers no usable contact action, send the contact file instead.

6. Prepare a printed version

Capture the displayed QR code, or use QR Poster, a Pro feature that exports a PNG poster. For a business card, place the QR artwork in your chosen layout tool and keep its square shape. Use black squares on white and keep text and artwork outside the blank border. DENSO WAVE specifies a clear margin at least four QR squares wide on every side. Check the border yourself: the app's QR images use fixed pixel margins, which do not guarantee that spacing. Add white space in the layout when needed. Print a proof at the intended size and scan that physical copy before ordering a batch. Leave a readable contact method alongside it as a fallback.

7. Send a contact file when scanning adds work

A .vcf file is a better handoff when the recipient is viewing your message on the same phone they would use to scan, when their reader cannot save the QR contact, or when you need to preserve a longer record. In Business Card Tap, choose Send card, then Send contact file, and select an available app that accepts the attachment. If the downloaded file does not open as a contact on Android, Google Contacts provides an import route: open Contacts, tap Organize, choose Import from file, select the destination account if prompted, and select the VCF file.

8. Replace old codes after an edit

An embedded contact QR code is a snapshot. After changing your details, save the card and use the newly generated code. Replace old screenshots and exported artwork, and print another proof if the change affects a printed design. Copies already distributed still contain the earlier information; editing the app does not rewrite them or update contacts that recipients previously saved. Business Card Tap's generated card links also carry a snapshot of the details, so switching to its link-sharing option does not make an existing printed code automatically update.

9. Know the limits of the card-link alternative

Send card link is a separate option for sharing a browser view, with internet access needed to load the page. It is not what the app puts in its displayed contact QR code. The current recipient page cuts each text field to 500 characters, so long notes can lose content through this route even when a direct contact file contains the full text. Use ordinary https:// website addresses; the page does not provide that safety check. Prefer the direct contact file for a long record.

Frequently asked questions

Can I make the QR code without paying for Pro?

Yes. The first card's standard identity, contact, and social fields support QR sharing and contact-file sharing without Pro. Additional cards, extra fields, custom card colors, logos, and QR Poster require Pro.

Does the recipient need Business Card Tap?

They do not need this app. They need a reader that understands the encoded contact information or a contacts app that can import the VCF file. The receiving phone determines the available save steps.

Will my logo become the recipient's contact photo?

No. The app's vCard generator does not include a photo or logo field. A logo can appear in the Pro card design and poster artwork, but it is not embedded as an image in the contact QR code.

What happens to extra fields if Pro is no longer active?

The current sharing logic leaves out the second phone number, address, second website, and note when Pro is inactive. It retains those values in the stored card. Check a newly generated code before relying on previously included extra fields.

Can I select different fields for each QR share?

The current app has no field picker for an individual share. Its eligible saved contact fields feed the QR code. Review what is on the card before generating it; the internal Card Label is not included in the vCard.

Turn your phone into your business card. Business Card Tap sends your details to another phone with a tap over NFC, and falls back to an on-screen QR code when NFC isn't available. Fully offline, no account.
